Director’s Biography : Kristina Grozeva and Petar Valchanov are a writer-producer director couple based in Sofia, Bulgaria. Kristina and Petar’s short film debut Jump (2012) became the first Bulgarian film ever nominated for the European Film Award. Their independent feature debut The Lesson (2014) and its follow-up Glory (2016) went on to become two of the most acclaimed Bulgarian films of the 21st century. They are parts of the directors’ so-called Newspaper Clippings Trilogy of stories inspired by media sensations depicting the absurdity of life in post-communist Bulgaria. The final instalment, “Triumph”, is currently in development.
Synopsis: How do we deal with something as tragic as death? For someone, who has lived a blissful life of many years with a loving partner, the void is surely deep. The missing, the absence surely makes us go out of our ways and out of the box to find comfort. A day after Valentina’s passing, her bereaved husband Vassil and son Pavel find out that she persistently keeps trying to call the neighbour on the phone. A sucker for the supernatural, Vassil sets out on a trip to meet a famous medium, forcing his estranged son Pavel to tag along and make sure his nutty old dad stays out of harm’s way. The unhinged journey that follows will make them face the guilt they feel towards the one they lost and rediscover their relationship.
