Director’s Biography:
Dr.Biju (Bijukumar Damodaran) is a three time India’s national award winning filmmaker. He is considered one of the most important contemporary voices in Indian cinema., His first film “Saira” screened in Cannes film festival in 2007 under “Cinema of the world “section. Biju’s films has been screened at many festivals across the world including Cannes, Montreal, Shanghai, Telluride, Cairo, Iran (Fajr), Eurasia Almaty, Jeonju, Tallinn, Oporto, Dhaka, IFFK and IFFI. His new film “Trees under the sun” premiered at Shanghai International film festival 2019 and won Outstanding Artistic Achievement award. This is the first time an Indian film won any award at Shanghai festival from its inception.
He has been invited as a member of the jury in many well-known film festivals across the world
Synopsis:
A Dalit (Socially Backward community) family comprising of a man, his wife, and their son live in a backwater island in Kerala. During a heavy rainy season, their small house submerges in the flood water. The family who lost their house and properties in the flood and eventually lost their job, set for Himachal Pradesh to work as guards for an apple orchard. They reside in a small house in the lone apple orchard in the middle of the Himalayan Mountains. The place, the language, and the culture, all were totally unfamiliar to that family. With the changing seasons like winter, autumn, and summer, this film depicts the life of common people struggling hard with these seasons and nature to make a living…
